By now, you should have upgraded to the FREE Windows 10 operating system for your PC that came out last week.

 Right?

It's OK if you haven't.  When you do, be sure you have good a good backup of your data to play it safe.

Windows 10 is a great new version of Windows.  It's what Windows 8 should have been.  But with many new improvements and features. Best of all, the Start button is back.  We'll do some Cool Tips for Windows 10 in the coming weeks.

But the very best Cool Tip for Windows 10 is GodMode. This hidden system control feature is for both general users and geeky sysadmins.  It brings all of the system settings into one all-powerful settings screen.

To invoke GodMode:

1. Right-click on your desktop and select New Folder.

2. Type in or "copy and paste" the following as the new folder name, exactly as shown:

    GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

3. Hit Enter and the folder icon will change to GodMode.

4.  Open the folder to access all Windows 10 settings.

That's it.  All of the system settings are in one place.

The new GodMode settings window can be moved around your desktop and directory like any other folder so you can make it convenient to access in the future.

As always, be careful when making system changes and only make changes when necessary.

How to Open a Link in a New Tab Window

There's a quick way to force a link to open in a new tab window in most browsers.

Actually, there are two.

Perhaps you've found a site with a page full of links.  Rather than clicking each link and then having to go back to the main page, these tips will force any link click to open in a new tab window.  It's easy to return to the main tab window and delete the newly opened tab if needed.


Here are two ways to force a link to open in a new tab window:

1.  Hover over a link, and right-mouse click.  Select "Open link in new window".

2.  Hover over the link and press the Ctrl key and click the link.

Use Quick Analysis to Explore Your Data in Microsoft Excel

Excel is the standard for spreadsheets and data analysis.  There are thousands of ways to sort, analyze and view data.  But with so many options, it can be hard to do quick analysis, especially for novice users.

There is a quick way to explore your data.  It's "Quick Analysis".

It's simple to use and since it's so close to your data, you can quickly analyze your data.

Here's how to use it.

• Select a data set in your spreadsheet. See our cool tip HERE.
• Look for the small box in the bottom right-hand corner of the selected data.  You can also you the keyboard shortcut of "Ctrl + Q".
• Click the icon to display the Quick Analysis menu.

Select between the various options: Formatting, Charts, Totals, Tables and Sparklines to quickly analyze your data.

How to Use Two Google Accounts Simultaneously

Many internet users have more than one email account.

Over time, we've collected Gmail, YAHOO, Hotmail and maybe even still have an AOL email.

It's not a problem to be logged in to two different services at the same time using two browser tabs, for example, Google and YAHOO.

But it's a problem when using more than one services at a time, for example, two Google email accounts.  

Logging in to Google more than once in a browser doesn't work since Google uses cookies to keep you logged into the various Google services like search, YouTube and Gmail.

But there is an easy solution.

Open the second account in a new tab using the browser's Incognito mode.  

In the Chrome browser, it's in the menu options in the top right.  Or just use  Ctrl + Shift + N.

With Microsoft Edge browser, open a new InPrivate window.

How to Change the Default File Explorer Folder View to "This PC"

Windows 10 changed the default folder view for the File Explorer application.  The default is now "Quick Access"

Most people prefer the "This PC" seen in previous Windows versions.

Here's how to change the default folder view when File Explorer is opened:

• Open File Explorer.
• Click “View” in the menu ribbon bar.
• Click “Options” (far right) to open the Folder Options dialog.
• Under the “General” tab, “Open File Explorer to:", change the drop-down option to “This PC.” 
• Click OK.

How to Prevent Your Posts from Showing Up in Facebook's New Public Search

If you haven't already heard, Facebook has rolled out a new search function within the web and mobile applications.

Searching now brings not only posts from friends, groups and news, but also public posts.

Here's how to prevent future posts from being visible to others who are not Facebook friends.

• On the main News Feed page, click the lock icon in the top right corner.
• Look for the "Who Can See My Future Posts?" option.
• Ensure your option is "Friends" or "Only Me".  If it says "Public" then all future posts will be visible to anyone.

Whenever you post to your timeline, be sure the privacy is set correctly on the post as well.

You'll need to review existing posts to ensure privacy is set to your desired level.

How to Use the New Emoji in Apple's iOS 9.1

New emoji (emoticons) have come to Apple's iOS with the recent 9.1 software update.

These new emoji include a burrito, avocado, unicorn, cheese wedge and taco.

But how do you use these new emoticons?

Many people haven't even used the existing emoji.

It's a two step process.

First, you need to add the Emoji keyboard to your iPhone or iPad.  Here's how to do it.

1. Select "Settings", then "General", then "Keyboard".
2. Select "Keyboards".
3. Select "Add New Keyboard"
4. Select "Emoji". (You'll need to scroll down and it's after "Dutch")

The next step is to actually use the emoji.  Here's how.

You can use the emoji anywhere the standard keyboard can be used.  

After you've added the emoji keyboard, you can select it when the keyboard is displayed.  

For example, when sending a text message and you click in the text field, the keyboard will display.

Select the world icon to change keyboards.  

If you have more than one keyboard installed, press the world again until the emoji keyboard is shown.  

You'll see categories of emoji at the bottom, press an icon such as the smiley face to see all of the face emoticons.  or swipe left or right to cycle thru all of the emoticons.  

Select the one you want to include in your message.

Press the world icon to cycle back to your original keyboard.
