You open YouTube to watch a quick tutorial, product review, or news clip. Before the video begins, an advertisement appears. Another interruption arrives halfway through.

DuckDuckGo now offers a free alternative for people who watch YouTube in a web browser. 

Its built-in YouTube Ad Blocking feature blocks most video advertisements that appear before and during videos.

DuckDuckGo introduced the feature on July 8, 2026. It is available in the company’s browser for Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, and Android. No DuckDuckGo account or paid subscription is required.

There is one important limitation: You must watch YouTube through the DuckDuckGo browser. 

The feature does not work inside the native YouTube app on a phone or tablet.

Do you want to use a different search engine on your iPhone, or set a different search engine for private browsing? 

Here's a Cool Tip.  Change your search engine setting in iOS 17.

This is a great way to improve your privacy and have more control over your search experience.

Here's how to do it.

• Open the Settings app.
• Scroll down and tap Safari.

• Under the Search section, tap Search Engine.
• Choose a search engine from the list.

• Choose Safari to return.
• To set a different search engine for private browsing, tap Private Search Engine.
• Choose a search engine from the list.

• Use Default Search Engine (under Private Search Engine): This will use the same search engine for private browsing as you set for regular browsing.

You can choose from five different search engines: Google, Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia.

If you're concerned about your privacy, you may want to consider using a search engine like DuckDuckGo, which doesn't track your searches.

You can also change your search engine at any time by following the steps above.

DuckDuckGo is a terrific search site.

Unlike Google, DuckDuckGo protects users privacy while providing quality search results.

One very cool feature of the site is the ability to search other sites, especially e-commerce sites such as Amazon.

These searches, called !Bangs, are available for thousands of sites.

Here's how to search using !Bangs.

- from the DuckDuckGo main page, enter "!Amazon Shirts" (without the "s)
- The results will return search results directly from the Amazon site

Besides Amazon, !Bang searches are available for thousands of sites in a variety of categories.  These include Entertainment, Shopping, News and Tech.  Site searches include The Washington Post, Wikipedia, Bed Bath and Beyond and many more.
