Filter Political Noise on Instagram with This Simple Trick

Tired of endless political posts on Instagram? Learn how to easily turn political content on or off and customize your social media experience.

Ever find yourself scrolling through Instagram wishing you could escape the barrage of political posts? 

Do divisive opinions and election news sometimes make your social media experience less enjoyable?  

Here's a Cool Tip.  Customize how much (or how little) political content you see on Instagram.

Let's dive into how to take control of your Instagram feed.

Here's how to do it.
  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile device.
  2. Navigate to your profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
  3. Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner to access the Settings menu.
  4. Select "Settings".
  5. Choose "Content Preferences".
  6. Tap on "Political Content".
  7. Choose your preference:
    • "Limit political content from people you don't follow" (reduces the amount of political content)
    • "Don't Limit political content from people you don't follow" (shows the normal amount of political content)
  8. By default, Instagram limits political content.

This setting allows you to curate a feed that better aligns with your interests and helps you avoid content you find draining or stressful.

You can reduce your exposure to potentially divisive or upsetting information.

But limiting exposure could create an echo chamber,  

It's important to supplement your social media with diverse news sources to get a well-rounded perspective.

If an upcoming election is causing heightened political discussion on your feed, the "Limit" options can offer temporary respite.

Reclaim Your Privacy: How to Disable Sharing to Facebook and Instagram on Threads

In today's interconnected world, where social media platforms seamlessly integrate, it's easy to lose control over how your personal content is shared. 

Threads, the new social networking app from Meta, is no exception. 

By default, your Threads posts may be shared with your other Meta accounts, including Facebook and Instagram. 

Here's a Cool Tip.  Change Your Settings to Prevent This Sharing to Other Apps.

If you're not comfortable with this level of visibility, you can disable cross-app sharing on Meta Threads and regain control over your privacy.

Here's how to do it.
  • Launch the Meta Threads app
  • Ensure you're logged into the account you want to manage sharing settings for.
  • Tap on your profile picture to access your profile settings.
  • Scroll down to the "Privacy" section
  • Tap on the "Suggesting posts on other apps" option.
  • Toggle off the switches next to "Facebook" and "Instagram" to disable cross-app sharing for both platforms.

With this new feature, users can now add multiple links to their profile through the mobile app and edit them to include titles and rearrange the order in which they are displayed.

  • In the top left corner under your profile picture, tap the Edit profile button
  • Tap links
  • Tap Add external link

Search Instagram on the Web

Instagram updated its website to allow users to search the site similar to its mobile apps.

This new feature to the Instagram site allows users to search for hashtags, accounts and locations.

Instagram now displays "Top Posts" as well as "Most Recent" in hashtag and location search results.

The Instagram.com website still lags behind the iPhone and Android mobile apps in features.  But this upgrade makes the website a more valuable tool and starts to compete against Twitter more effectively.
