Cortana is Leaving Windows, but AI is Here to Stay

Microsoft Cortana
Have you heard the news?

Microsoft is shutting down Cortana on Windows!

Cortana is Microsoft's AI assistant for Windows and other products.

Microsoft has announced that it will no longer support Cortana in Windows as a standalone app starting in August 2023.

This change only impacts Cortana in Windows.

Cortana, will continue to be available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms.

Here's a Cool Tip:  Use other AIs to fill the Cortana void.

Cortana may be going away but you can still access powerful productivity features in Windows and Edge, which have increased AI capabilities.

Some of these tools include Voice access in Windows 11, the new AI-powered Bing, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Windows Copilot.

If you use Amazon Alexa, you can also use the Windows version.

It’s clear that Microsoft is focusing on its recent AI efforts as suitable replacements for the Cortana experience.

The new Windows Copilot should be able to do most of what the Cortana app can do, plus more.

So while it may be sad to see Cortana go, there are still plenty of options available for users to get help with their tasks, calendar, and email.

It’s an exciting time for AI technology and it will be interesting to see how these new tools develop.

Enjoy!

Let Cortana Translate For You

Parlez-vous Français?

Cortana, Microsoft's personal digital assistant, has been updated in Windows 10 to offer translations in 38 languages

Users can ask Cortana to translate via verbal or written requests and Cortana will answer with audio and written replies.

To try this yourself, ensure that Cortana is active in Windows 10, then either type your request or say "Hey Cortana", then "Translate "Word, phrase or sentence you want to to translate" in 'Language you want to translate to'.

Of course, change the request to something like "Translate 'Where are the bathrooms?' in Spanish'".

This new capability adds the recently introduced translation capabilities in the Microsoft Skype audio/video chat service.

As Cortana improves and expands, this service will be more useful in mobile devices.
