How to Add and Save Mail Attachments in iOS9 on Your iPhone and iPad

iOS9
The long wait is over.

Users can now add and save attachments in emails in Apple's iOS9 mobile operating system for iPhones and iPads.

It's a small but important new feature in the latest iOS.

Previously, users could only insert photos and videos.

Adding an attachment is similar to adding a photo.

Press and hold inside the body of the email.  Click the right triangle to cycle to and then click on "Add Attachment".

Add attachment iOS9

By default the iCloud folders will be displayed.

Add attachment iCloud iOS9

Select a folder and then attach the document.  You can also select "Locations" and add files from other sources such as Google Drive and Dropbox if you have those apps installed.

Saving a file attachment is easy too.  Just tap and hold on a file attachment in an email until the Share option displays.  Swipe to the left until Save Attachment appears.  You can save to the iCloud or other folders.

Enjoy!

Beware of Duplicate Facebook Friend Requests

Spammers and scammers will look for every opportunity to cause mayhem online.

A new approach is to impersonate one of your Facebook friends and request a second, friend connection.

So, be wary of a duplicate friend request on Facebook.

How do they do this?  And why?

Both are easily answered.

A scammer will create a duplicate email account and pose as one of your friends.  To make it more believable, they will copy the current profile picture of your friend.  And then send you a friend request.

If you are not paying attention, you might accept this request.

And then it begins.

It might be a shady link to a spam site that is shared on your timeline.  Maybe the link goes to a compromised website that silently drops malware or a virus onto your computer.

Or you'll get a Facebook Messenger Instant Message stating that your friend is out of the country and needs emergency cash wired immediately to fix a car, post bail or get a flight to come home.

And while they are your friend on Facebook, they can capture the names and accounts of your actual friends and start the process over looking to scam your friends too.

So what can you do to stop this?

  • Check Before You Accept - Before you click to accept a friend request, double check that it's really who you think it is.  Review your own Facebook connections to see if this new request is a duplicate.  Posting a note on your real friend's timeline will help alert them to this problem too.
  • Always be Wary - Before you click any link posted to your wall, take a moment to check it out.  Is it a reputable site?  If not, don't click.
  • Poor Grammar and Typos - If you get an IM from a friend that seems to be unusual or poorly written, it might be a scammer who has wrested control of the account from the real owner.  Check it out by email or a real audio call to be sure.  Especially before you send money.
  • Report it - Let Facebook know if there is an impostor account.  CLICK HERE for instructions from Facebook on how to report a fake account.

Try These Two Gmail Address Hacks

Gmail logo
Wondering why you are getting some spam that slips through filters?

Probably because you signed up when using an account and the email looks legit.

How can you tag emails that you use when you sign up for unimportant websites?

One solution is a "throwaway" email.  But that can get tiring.

Another solution is to use an email address that you can set up a filter to send to the spam folder.

Here's the first solution to hack your gmail email address to make it specific:
  • Add Additional Text - You can add a "+" (plus) sign and then add any combination of letters or numbers after your email address.   For example, onecooltipcom+yahoospam@gmail.com works fine.  Add the extra letters when you sign up for a required account and you'll see who sold off your email in the future.  You can also  use the extra letters to filter incoming email.
The second option shows how you can add a period in your email address:
  • Add a Period - You can insert a "." (period) anywhere in your email address to the left of the @ sign.  For example, the email address onecooltipcom@gmail.com and onecooltip.com@gmail.com both equally work.

Both of these hacks show  you can "mark" your email address to indicate something unique.  When you see an incoming email, you can then see where the marketer got your email.

Enjoy!
