Google is stopping support for Windows 7 and 8/8.1 with its Chrome browser at the end of 2022.
What does that mean?
Google Chrome version 109 will be the last version that will support the older Windows Operating systems.
Users on these older versions of Windows can continue to use the Chrome browser, however, it will not update to a newer version. Feature updates, bugs and security fixes will no longer be available.
Google Chrome version 110, expected to be released in early February 2023, will only support Windows 10 and 11.
Microsoft Edge is also sunsetting support for the older operating systems.
As of now, Mozilla still supports the older versions. But a final decision on how long to support has not been announced.
Users will have to decide if updating their older PCs is worth the risk and hassle. Or buying a new system with the newer Windows 11 system is a better long term decision.
