Call Screening on iPhone with iOS 26

iOS 26
How many times this week did your iPhone ring with a number you didn't recognize?

And how many of those calls were legitimate?

If you are like most professionals, educators, or entrepreneurs today, that ratio is heavily skewed toward telemarketers, automated messages, and outright spam.

Our phones have become essential tools, yet they are constantly hijacked by noise, eroding our focus and costing us valuable time.

Here's a Cool Tip:  Call Screening on the iPhone with iOS 26.

What Is Call Screening and Why It Matters

Call Screening automatically handles incoming calls from numbers not stored in your contacts.

Instead of ringing your phone immediately, iOS 26 intercepts the call and asks the caller to say their name and reason for calling.

Their spoken reply appears as text on your screen within a few seconds.

You can then choose to answer, decline, send a message, or let it go to voicemail.

This small change solves a big problem.

Until now, iPhone users could either block spam after the fact or silence every unknown caller, missing legitimate ones in the process.

Call Screening offers a balanced solution: fewer interruptions without missing important calls.

What You’ll Gain

• Block spam and cold calls before they reach you.
• See who’s calling and why before you answer.
• Keep legitimate calls visible even when unsaved.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Here's how to do it.

On iPhone (iOS 26)
  1. Update your iPhone to iOS 26.
  2. Open Settings and tap Apps then Phone.
  3. Scroll to Screen Unknown Callers.
  4. Choose how you want screening to work:
    • Never: unknown numbers ring as usual.
    • Ask Reason for Calling: the system asks callers to identify themselves.
    • Silence:  unknown calls go directly to voicemail.
  5. To add extra filtering, open Call Blocking & Identification and enable options such as Business Connect if available from your carrier.
  6. Turn on Live Voicemail to watch transcriptions in real time and join a call mid-message if you wish.
