Switching between banking apps, payment apps, and your social feed adds friction every time you need to split a bill or move money.
Here’s a Cool Tip: Check for the Money tab in your X app and set up the account if it appears.
X has started embedding these functions directly into the platform many people already open dozens of times a day.
Eligible U.S. users can now hold dollars, earn interest, send funds to other X handles, and spend with a physical or virtual Visa card without jumping apps.
X Money is an integrated financial service built into the X app.
It provides a stored-value account held at Cross River Bank (Member FDIC), instant peer-to-peer transfers to other X users, support for wires and mailed checks, early direct deposit, and an X Card (Visa debit) that works wherever Visa is accepted.
Users can earn up to 6.00% APY on eligible balances.
Premium+ subscribers qualify for the full rate.
Premium subscribers may reach it after meeting qualifying direct-deposit requirements.
Eligible purchases with the X Card earn 3% cashback. ATM fees are reimbursed, and there are no foreign transaction fees on the card.
Deposits receive standard FDIC coverage up to $250,000, with a cash-sweep program that can extend aggregate coverage up to $10 million across participating banks for eligible balances.
The service matters because it reduces app-switching for people already active on X.
Creators can receive tips or payouts more easily. Travelers benefit from the no-foreign-fee card and free ATM reimbursements.
Everyday users gain a high-yield place to park short-term cash.
It is newly available in a phased U.S. rollout to Premium and Premium+ subscribers rather than a fully open launch.
What You'll Gain
Earn competitive interest on cash that would otherwise sit idle in a traditional low-yield account.
Send money to or request money from other X users instantly with no fees on platform transfers.
Spend or withdraw with a Visa card that carries no foreign-transaction fees and reimburses ATM charges.
Receive direct deposits up to two days early and manage wires or mailed checks from the same place.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Here's how to do it.
Access is currently limited to eligible U.S. Premium and Premium+ accounts and appears gradually.
Update the X app first.
iPhone/iPad or Android:
- Open the latest version of the X app (iOS / Android).
- Look in the side menu or navigation for a Money, Payments, or X Money tab (or any banner or prompt).
- Tap to begin enrollment, complete identity verification (legal name, SSN, address, and any required ID), and accept the account terms.
- Once approved, a virtual X Card is issued. You can add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay and optionally order the physical metal card.
- Link a bank account or set up direct deposit if desired, then fund the account and test a small transfer.
Web (x.com):
- The Money experience is primarily app-based.
- Check the sidebar after signing in. Full management features may require the mobile app.
- Not currently available as a standalone desktop application or on non-U.S. accounts.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Competitive APY that exceeds most traditional savings rates for eligible balances.
- Instant, free P2P transfers tied to X handles remove the need for separate payment apps.
- Metal Visa card with cashback, no foreign fees, and ATM fee reimbursements works well for travel.
- Early direct deposit and built-in bill-pay options simplify everyday cash flow.
Cons:
- Limited to U.S. Premium and Premium+ subscribers and still rolling out gradually.
- Requires identity verification and an X account in good standing.
- Interest rates and cashback eligibility can change. Certain transactions are excluded from rewards.
- Availability depends on state licensing and account eligibility.
