The problem is remembering whether it lives in a Drive folder, a Google Doc, a planning Sheet, or last quarter’s Slides deck. 

Finding it is only the first step. 

You still need to read it, pull out the useful details, and turn those details into something new.

The Google Drive plugin for ChatGPT shortens that chain. 

Once it is installed and connected, ChatGPT can use Drive content available to the connected account as source material for a task. 

The plugin works across Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. 

You can ask for a specific document, refer to Google Drive with an @ mention, or describe the result you need and let ChatGPT choose the installed tool when appropriate.

This is more useful than a one-time file upload when your work depends on material that changes or when several related files live in Drive. 

Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan, workspace settings, and the plugin itself. Managed-workspace administrators may restrict installation or access.

A connected file is still source material, not a guarantee that the answer is complete or correct.

3. Connect your Google account when prompted and review the permissions requested before approving access.
4. Start a new chat after installation so the plugin and its tools are available to that conversation.
5. Describe the outcome you want. To specify the source, type @ in the prompt and select Google Drive.
6. Name a specific file, folder, topic, or date range. Tell ChatGPT what to produce and how to handle missing or conflicting information.
7. Ask ChatGPT to identify the files it used. Open the originals before relying on important dates, totals, names, or decisions.

iPhone/iPad and Android

1. Open the ChatGPT mobile app (iOS / Android) and start a new Chat or Work conversation.
2. Check whether the Google Drive plugin is available to the account.
3. If it is available, invoke Google Drive from the prompt and describe the file or result you need.
4. If the mobile interface does not offer installation or connection controls, install and connect the plugin from ChatGPT on the web or in the desktop app, then return to a new mobile conversation.
