Gemini Now Learns from Your Past Conversations
Gemini’s newest update lets it remember what you tell it, so your assistant can pick up right where you left off. It learns your preferences, adapts to your work, and becomes more useful the more you use it.

Here's a Cool Tip: Turn on Google Gemini's Past Chats feature.
The latest version can remember key details from your past conversations and use them to give more relevant responses.
It feels less like chatting with a new assistant each day and more like talking to one that knows you.
The new “Personal Context” system in Gemini stores short-term details about your conversations so the assistant can learn patterns over time.
If you regularly discuss writing articles, organizing trips, or analyzing business data, Gemini can keep that context and tailor its responses accordingly.
For example:
- If you’re an accountant, Gemini might remember that you use QuickBooks Online, prepare monthly reconciliations, and follow GAAP reporting standards.
- If you work in HR, Gemini can recall that you often draft job postings, summarize employee surveys, or prepare compliance updates for management.
Google says this update is part of a broader goal to make AI assistants more personal and efficient.
The feature can be turned off at any time through settings, but when left on, it helps Gemini anticipate what you need next.
What You’ll Gain
- Personalized responses based on your past topics and tone
- Less repetition when working across multiple sessions
- Smarter recommendations that match your habits and goals
Step-by-Step Instructions
On Web or Mobile
- Open the Gemini app or visit gemini.google.com.
- Sign in with your Google account.
- Go to Settings → Personal Context.
- Turn on “Your past chats with Gemini.”
- If you ever want Gemini to stop learning from your history, return to the same setting and toggle it off.
- To delete previous learning, go to Settings → Keep Activity, where you can review or remove saved conversations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Builds a consistent working relationship with your AI assistant
- Reduces time spent repeating the same background details
- Adapts suggestions to your workflow and tone
- Easy to review or delete saved history at any time
Cons
- Memory is enabled by default, so you should check your settings if you prefer manual control
- The rollout is still gradual, so not all regions or devices have it yet
- May occasionally lean too heavily on older context, requiring a manual reset
Feature Access
The memory feature is rolling out first to Gemini 2.5 Pro users and will expand to other models over the next few months.
Both free and paid tiers will eventually support it, though the most advanced personalization will appear in Pro plans.
Availability may vary by country.
