Google's Best Mobile Photo Editor You Probably Don't Know About - Throw Back Tip

Throw Back Tip - One Cool Tip - www.onecooltip.com
Here's a Throw Back tip that every smart phone user should know about.  Google has a terrific mobile photo editor app called Snapseed.

Check out this cool tip from June 2015:

Snapseed - Google's Best Photo App You Don't Know About

With the rapid use of smart phones, millions of people around the world now take photos every day.  With newer phones capable of greater quality photos, users can take near-professional photos on their phone cameras. Many professionals even take their professional photos on mobile devices.  But not every photo is picture-quality and ready to share.

So how can you make edits to you photos without exporting them to a PC?  Fortunately, most phones offer some built-in editing capabilities, like cropping and auto-tune. And there are dozens of great photo editing apps in the iTunes and Google Play stores.

But which one is best?

Try These Two Gmail Address Hacks

Gmail logo
Wondering why you are getting some spam that slips through filters?

Probably because you signed up when using an account and the email looks legit.

How can you tag emails that you use when you sign up for unimportant websites?

One solution is a "throwaway" email.  But that can get tiring.

Another solution is to use an email address that you can set up a filter to send to the spam folder.

Here's the first solution to hack your gmail email address to make it specific:
  • Add Additional Text - You can add a "+" (plus) sign and then add any combination of letters or numbers after your email address.   For example, onecooltipcom+yahoospam@gmail.com works fine.  Add the extra letters when you sign up for a required account and you'll see who sold off your email in the future.  You can also  use the extra letters to filter incoming email.
The second option shows how you can add a period in your email address:
  • Add a Period - You can insert a "." (period) anywhere in your email address to the left of the @ sign.  For example, the email address onecooltipcom@gmail.com and onecooltip.com@gmail.com both equally work.

Both of these hacks show  you can "mark" your email address to indicate something unique.  When you see an incoming email, you can then see where the marketer got your email.

Enjoy!

Request Large Files with Dropbox

Dropbox
Do you need someone to send you a large document by email?

Sorry to tell you that it might not work.

Large email attachments might clog the sending or receiving email account or just timeout and fail to send at all.

One solution is to share a cloud-based folder using Google drive, Box or Dropbox.

But that can be unhelpful because the sender will have to install the software to use the service.  And that can get very complicated if you are asking numerous people to send you files.

But there's a new solution.

Dropbox has introduced a new feature that solves this exact problem.

You can request files from users and they do not have to install Dropbox.

Dropbox remains one of our most favorite cloud storage solutions. (See our Dropbox Cool Tip)

Here's how to use the new "File Requests" feature.

1.  Log into Dropbox on the web.
2.  Click the "File Request" link in the left-hand menu.

Dropbox File Request

3.  Enter the name of the file(s) you are requesting.  Photos from a wedding?  Birthday party?  Homework?  Then confirm where in Dropbox you'd like the file(s) to go.  Click "Next".

Dropbox Create File Request

4.   You can then copy the link you can use include in your personal email.  Or you can let Dropbox send an email for you.

Dropbox Send File Request

That's it.  Your incoming files will come into the Dropbox folder you specified.  And because it's Dropbox, you can see your files from any of your devices.

Enjoy!

Reset "Hey Siri" After You Upgrade to iOS 9

Siri
Apple's latest operating system is available today for a free upgrade to existing iPhone and iPad users.

Overall, its an elegant update that makes subtle but important changes to using the mobile products.

But one thing users need to do it to reset the "Hey Siri" option.  "Hey Siri" lets users command Siri when the device is plugged in.  During the iOS 9 upgrade, the setting is set to "off" even if it had been previously set to "on".

To reset "Hey Siri", go to Settings, General, Siri.  Toggle "Hey Siri" to on.  You'll then need to train Siri to your voice through a few screen prompts.

Reset "Hey Siri" after upgrading to ios 9 - one cool tip

When complete, you'll be able to invoke Siri with the "Hey Siri" command.

Periscope Landscape Mode Now Available

Periscope
Our favorite live-streaming app, Periscope, now offers a landscape view mode for broadcasters and viewers.

Previously, only portrait-mode was available to live stream video.

The new, highly-desired feature is available in updated apps for both iOS and Android devices.

The change is also coming ahead of the newly announced Apple TV that reportedly has a Periscope viewing app.

Periscope Landscape View

As we shared before (Broadcast Live From Your Phone), landscape mode is preferred for video viewing since it displays better on mobile devices, computer monitors and TV screens.  Portrait video leaves black bars on each side of the video when displayed on larger screens.  Check out our tip about taking better videos on your smartphone HERE.

The Periscope for iOS devices can be found HERE and for Android devices HERE.
