OpenAI's new ChatGPT Agent, introduced in July 2025, advances AI with Agent capabilities.

Instead of only answering your questions, it can take action, such as planning trips, drafting emails, building slides, updating spreadsheets, and more. 

Think of it like a digital assistant that follows through on instructions and works directly inside your apps.

What Is ChatGPT Agent?

ChatGPT Agent combines OpenAI’s earlier Operator and Deep Research tools into one seamless system. 

It can browse websites, extract data, fill out forms, run basic code, manipulate files, and even interact with web apps using read-only connectors like Google Drive or Gmail.

To use it, enable Agent mode in your ChatGPT interface or type /agent, then describe your task. 

The Agent handles it step by step, asking for your confirmation when needed.

Users are already putting it to work on real tasks: preparing meeting slides, scheduling events, booking tickets, and compiling reports. What used to take hours now takes minutes.

Here's how to do it.

Microsoft Web/Desktop:

1. Sign in to ChatGPT, www.chatgpt.com, on your browser or desktop app.
2. Open the Tools menu and enable Agent mode, or type /agent.
3. Type a request, such as "Summarize these articles and create a presentation."
4. Confirm when prompted before actions like sending emails or exporting files.
5. Follow the progress and give feedback or adjustments if needed.

Practical Example

1. /agent Plan a one-day Chicago sightseeing itinerary for two grandparents and two young kids (ages 5 and 7). Include 3–4 activities with kid-friendly timing, food options nearby, and total estimated cost. Export it to a PDF.

iOS / Android:

1. Open the ChatGPT app.
2. Tap the tools icon or type /agent.
3. Describe your task clearly.
4. Confirm permissions when requested.
