Here's how to do it.

📱 Android and iOS
  1. Download the App Android / iOS
  2. Open the app and enter your phone number.
  3. Verify using the SMS code sent to your device.
  4. Choose a Signal PIN (used for profile recovery and secure identification).
  5. Enable access to contacts and notifications (optional but useful).
  6. Tap the pencil icon to begin a new message with a Signal user.
  7. Enable Disappearing Messages (Optional) - Open a chat > tap contact name > enable Disappearing Messages and set a timer.

🖥️ Signal Desktop (Windows/macOS/Linux)
  1. Install Signal on Your Phone First.
  2. Download the Desktop App - signal.org/download/.
  3. Open the desktop app and scan the QR code using Signal on your phone (Settings > Linked Devices).
  4. Start Messaging from Your Desktop.
