Alexa+ can now turn almost any topic into a short, AI-generated podcast episode you can listen to on an Echo device or in the Alexa app. It is a smart way to learn during a commute, prep for a trip, explain a topic at home, or catch up on a subject without searching for a traditional podcast.

That is the idea behind Alexa Podcasts, a new Alexa+ feature that creates AI-generated audio episodes on demand. 

Instead of browsing podcast apps and hoping someone has already recorded the exact episode you want, you can ask Alexa+ for a custom episode about a topic you choose. 

Alexa can generate podcast-style episodes in minutes, with no documents or prep work required.

Feature Explanation

Alexa Podcasts is an Alexa+ feature that turns a user’s topic request into a custom audio episode. 

You ask for a topic, Alexa+ pulls together relevant information, shows or speaks an overview of what it plans to cover and then creates an audio recording with AI-generated host voices.

This is different from playing an existing podcast. Alexa is not simply searching Spotify, Amazon Music, or another catalog for a prerecorded show. 

It is generating a new podcast-style episode based on your request.

The feature draws from a wide range of sources, including the Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, TIME, Forbes, Business Insider, Politico, USA Today, Condé Nast, Hearst, Vox, and more than 200 local newspapers across the U.S.

That matters because the feature is aimed at quick, personalized learning. 

You might ask for “a 10-minute podcast about the history of Rome before my trip,” “a short explainer on quantum computing for business users,” or “a family-friendly episode about shooting stars.”

The biggest benefit is focus. 

Instead of getting a general search result, you get an audio lesson shaped around your topic, your time available, and your preferred direction.

Here's how to do it.

  1. Say: “Alexa, create a podcast about [topic].”
  2. Listen for Alexa’s proposed overview of what the episode will cover.
  3. Ask Alexa to adjust the length, focus, or direction before it generates the episode.
  4. Confirm when the plan sounds right.
  5. When the episode is ready, listen from your Echo device or follow the notification on your Echo Show.

Alexa App
  1. Open the Alexa app, (iPhone / Android)
  2. Ask Alexa+ to create a podcast about your chosen topic.
  3. Review the episode plan when Alexa provides it.
  4. Adjust the length or topic direction if needed.
  5. Tap the notification when the episode is ready.
  6. Find the episode later in the Alexa app or in the Music and More section, based on Amazon’s description.
Note: To find past custom podcasts, go to the App, then select Music and More.

Realistic Example

Before visiting Rome, ask: “Alexa, create a 12-minute podcast about ancient Rome for first-time visitors.” 

If Alexa proposes too much political history, say: “Make it more focused on landmarks, daily life, and what I should notice when walking around the city.”

  • Creator tradeoff: This is not the same as listening to a human-hosted podcast with reporting, interviews, production style, or personality.
  • Platform details are limited: Amazon has not provided full step-by-step instructions for every device or operating system.

Skip Alexa Podcasts if you prefer human-hosted shows, expert interviews, long-form reporting, or manual source control.

Alexa Podcasts is an AI-generated audio feature, so users should think about what they ask and where they listen. 

Your topic request may be processed by Alexa+ to generate the episode. 

If you use Alexa+ with household profiles, Echo devices, or shared speakers, others nearby may hear the episode or see notifications.

For private topics, use the Alexa app with headphones instead of a shared Echo speaker. 

Avoid asking for sensitive personal, financial, medical, or workplace-confidential material unless you understand your organization’s rules and Amazon account settings.
