Duolingo
What do knights, pawns, and bishops have in common with Duo the owl?

Here's a Cool Tip hint: They all live in the same app.

If you ever wished chess felt as fun and approachable as a mobile game, Duolingo has answered your call.

What Is Duolingo Chess?

Duolingo Chess is a new course currently rolling out to iOS users that teaches chess fundamentals through short, engaging lessons.

The course is structured similarly to Duolingo’s language modules, starting with basic piece movements and progressing to strategic concepts like checkmate patterns and tactical puzzles.

You’ll meet Oscar, your in-app chess coach, who guides you through the gamified learning experience—think XP points, streaks, and hearts.
