Or perhaps you've dreamt of exploring the vast canyons of Mars?
Here's a Cool Tip: Use Google Maps in Space.
Thanks to Google Maps in Space, these dreams are closer to reality than you might think.
This innovative feature transforms our familiar mapping interface into a cosmic exploration tool, allowing us to venture beyond Earth and explore the solar system from the comfort of our homes.
Google Maps in Space isn't a separate application but rather a feature integrated directly into Google Maps.
It leverages data collected from various sources, including NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) missions, to create detailed maps of celestial bodies.
Instead of street views, you get crater views, mountain ranges, and vast plains of other planets and moons.
It's a powerful educational tool, a source of inspiration, and a testament to the ever-expanding reach of technology.
Here's how to do it.
- Go to http://www.google.com/maps/space/
- Select a celestial body (or even the ISS) from the left-hand column.
- Use your mouse or arrow keys to move around.
- Press the + or - key to zoom in or zoom out. You can also use the mouse scroll wheel.
- To hide the sidebar with the list of locations, click the arrow on the right hand side. To show, click the same arrow again.
- To find the info about a landmark, click on the landmark name on the map. The landmark info appears on the left sidebar.
