With the release of iOS 18.2 in December 2024, Apple has introduced a handy feature that lets you set volume limits for both your iPhone's built-in speaker.
A limit for headphones is already available since iOS13.
This means you can finally say goodbye to those jarring volume spikes and safeguard your hearing health.
Excessive exposure to loud sounds can lead to noise-induced hearing loss, a condition that's often preventable.
By setting volume limits, you create a safety net for your ears, especially during prolonged listening sessions.
This is particularly crucial for young children whose ears are more sensitive.
Here's how to do it.
Setting a Volume Limit for Your iPhone Speaker
- Open your iPhone settings app - locate the gear icon on your iPhone's home screen.
- Tap on "Sounds & Haptics" to open the sound settings menu.
- Scroll down to "Built-in Speaker"
- Tap "Volume Limit"
- Toggle on "Limit Maximum Volume" to activate the volume limit feature.
- Drag the slider to your preferred maximum volume level. You can choose anywhere between 20% and 90%.
Setting a Volume Limit for Headphones
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on "Sounds & Haptics".
- Select "Headphone Safety".
- Toggle on "Reduce Loud Sounds".
- Adjust the slider: Set your desired maximum headphone volume.
