How to Stop Facebook Videos from Automatically Playing to Save Data

 Here's how.

 First be sure to have the latest Facebook mobile app for your device.

 For each type of device, you can change the auto-play option to On, Wi-fi only or Off.

 Android Devices

 1.  Open the Facebook app
2.  Tap the  icon
3.  Scroll down to Settings
4.  Tap the Video Auto-play
5.  Select an option.

 iOS Devices (iPhones, iPads)

 1.  Open the Facebook app.
2.  Tap the  icon
3.  Scroll down to Settings
4.  Select Account Settings
5.  Select Videos and Photos
6.  Select an option:    On Mobile Data and Wi-Fi Connections, On Wi-Fi Connections Only or Never Autoplay Videos

 PCs

 1.  Log into Facebook
2.  Click the  icon in the top right corner.
3.  Select Settings
4.  Select Videos
5.  Select an option from the dropdown menu, On or Off

Google App Gets A Whole Lot Smarter

The Google mobile App for iOS and Android devices has become smarter.

It's always been able to answer specific questions, like "Who is George Washington".

The app can analyze a question and answer specific qualifiers such as tallest, largest, or first.

Using the voice search option makes asking these questions even easier.

Consider these questions:

     -  What is the tallest building in the United States?

     -  What is the largest city in the United States?

     -  Who was the fifth president of the United States?

In addition, the brains behind the app can provide information based upon specific dates or other key events.

For example, "Who was the president of the United States in 1911?"

Other examples of more complex questions include "Who was the Vice President of the United States when the Titanic sank?"

These improvements brings natural language computers even closer to human capabilities.

Google can still get questions wrong.  But it's an amazing new leap forward.

"Find My Device" is New Feature of Windows 10 in November 2015 Update

By now you should have received the November 2015 update to Windows 10.

This automatic update released last week brings many behind-the-scene fixes as well as new features and capabilities.

The most interesting new feature is a "Find My Device" feature builtin to Windows 10.

We've told you about this type of service available for PCs and Macs.  Now a basic service is built into Windows 10.

While the feature is now available, users must turn it on by going to: Settings> Update & Security> then Find My Device.

To Find Your Device


  1. Ensure you are logged in with the same Microsoft account that you log into your PC
  2. Go to http://account.microsoft.com/devices
  3. Choose the device you want to locate and click Find My Device.

How to Find Customer Service Phone Numbers Using Google Search

Have a problem with a product or service and need to call customer service?  What's the number?

Use Google to quickly find the phone number, usually toll free.

Here's how.

1.  Go to http://www.google.com ot use the search Google search in Google Chrome.
2.  Enter the search 'xxx customer service number' where "xxx" is the company name.

This Hack Will Let You Use Siri Hands-Free Even on Older iPhones and Not Be Connected to Power

One of the cooler features of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is the ability to use Siri hands-free without being plugged in.

Earlier iPhone models such as the 5, 5s, 6 and 6 Plus only allow the voice-activated Siri while the device is plugged in for power.

But there is a cool hack that allows the older devices to activate Siri with the "Hey, Siri" command.

Here's how to do it.


  1. Ensure that the "Hey Siri" command is enabled in settings (Settings, General, Siri, Allow "Hey Siri")
  2. Press the home button once to activate Siri and ask a simple question like "What Time is It?"
  3. After Siri answers, Siri will accept the "Hey Siri" command for another question.
  4. You can continue to ask Siri questions, hands-free, and not be connected to power.
  5. If the screen times out and locks, you'll no longer be able to use this trick.  You can change the length of time for the lock screen in settings.


Of course, the reason that Apple requires Siri to be connected to power in the older models is to conserve battery strength.  But there are times when this hands-free trick can be handy, like in the kitchen.

Google's New "About Me" Lets You Manage Your Profile Information in One Place

What have you told Google about yourself?

Not much?

If only it was that simple.

As Google has acquired a variety of services over the years, your Google-wide profile may reveal more information than you remember.

Google has released a new tool, About Me, to let you see what Google has as your profile information.




The new site allows you to edit key profile sections: 

  • Personal Contact Info
  • Education
  • Work History
  • Sites
  • Places
  • Gender, Birthdays, More
  • Privacy

This is a great new capability to review profile information that Google has on each user.  Be sure to check it out to ensure that you are only sharing information that you mean to share.

How to Use Facebook Keyboard Shortcuts

It's not very obvious but Facebook has a number of useful keyboard shortcuts when using a web browser on the Windows PC or Macintosh.


Facebook Keyboard Shortcuts

Press the following keys:

j or k - Scroll up or down in News Feed
p - Post a new status
l - Like or Unlike a story
c - Comment on the selected story
s - Share the selected story
o - Open the attachment of the selected story
<Enter> - See more of the selected story
/ - Search
? - More shortcuts

That's it!  Use these keyboard shortcuts the next time you are using Facebook on the web.  facebook has a few more keyboard shortcuts to access other others besides the News Feed.  Press ? to see them when you are in Facebook.
