iOS 26 also introduces AirDrop Codes, short visual codes that let two devices connect for sharing without hunting through device lists.

Continue Transfers Over the Internet

1. Open the item you want to share. 
2. Tap Share. 
3. Tap AirDrop. 
4. Select the recipient.
5. Start the transfer while near each other.
6. Walk away if needed. The transfer continues automatically over the internet when local wireless drops.

Use an AirDrop Code (iOS 26.2 or later)

If you are sharing with someone who isn't in your contact list, Apple now requires a secure "AirDrop Code" to establish the connection. This prevents random files from appearing on your device in public places.

1. Open the app containing the file you want to share and tap the Share button. 
2. Tap the AirDrop icon in the share sheet.
3. Tap the name of the person or device you wish to share with.

5. Type the code provided by the recipient into the prompt on your own device to authorize the transfer.
