Have you ever found yourself overwhelmed by a barrage of notifications or missed an important alert?

Are you making the most of Windows 11’s built-in capabilities?

Here's a Cool Tip.  Use Windows 11's Notification feature.

Windows notifications are alerts that pop up on your screen to inform you about various activities on your computer.

They can come from the operating system itself, like reminders for updates or security alerts, or from apps, such as new email notifications or social media updates.

In Windows 11, these notifications are managed in the Notification Center, which is part of the taskbar.

Here, you can customize which notifications you receive, how they appear, and when you don’t want to be disturbed by using Focus Assist.

Notifications aim to keep you informed without needing to open each app to check for new messages or updates.

Let’s dive into how you can take control of your notifications and tailor them to fit your digital lifestyle.

Here's how to do it.
  1. Click on the date and time on the taskbar or press Windows key + N to open the Notification Center.
  2. Hover over a notification to reveal the ‘X’ to dismiss it or click to interact.
  3. Go to Settings > System > Notifications to adjust which apps can send you notifications and how they appear.
  4. Activate Focus Assist under Settings > System > Focus Assist to minimize distractions during work hours or while gaming.

Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024
Are you ready to experience the awe-inspiring phenomenon of a total solar eclipse?

On April 8, 2024, a swath of North America will be plunged into darkness as the moon completely blocks out the sun.

Want to make the most of this rare event and capture the moment?

Here's a Cool Tip.  NASA has you covered!

NASA, the authority on all things space, has released a comprehensive guide to ensure you have a safe and unforgettable eclipse-viewing experience.

Here's how to do it, plus tips on using your phone:
  • The path of totality (where the eclipse is total) is relatively narrow. Check if you're within it, and if not, consider traveling to a prime viewing spot.
  • Never look directly at the sun without specialized solar eclipse glasses! Permanent eye damage can occur otherwise.
  • Besides eclipse glasses, binoculars or a telescope with a solar filter will enhance your view. A camera or even your smartphone can help you preserve the moment. But wear your solar glasses to be safe!
  • While it won't match professional gear, you can snap eclipse photos with your phone. Crucial: Use solar eclipse glasses over your phone's lens during partial phases.
  • Notice how the temperature drops and listen for changes in animal behavior during totality! It's a full sensory experience.

Spice Up Your Texts: Master Emoji Layering in iMessage

Add creativity and flair to your messages with iMessage's hidden emoji stacking trick. Here's how to unleash your inner emoji artist!

By Rodger Mansfield, Technology Editor
April 7, 2024

Did you know you can turn simple emojis into creative masterpieces on your iPhone?

Here's a Cool Tip.  Use iMessage's Layered Emoji feature.

With iMessage's hidden layering feature, you can stack emojis for hilarious combinations, customized designs, and eye-catching messages.

Ready to level up your texting game?

Here's how to do it.
  • Open iMessage and start a new message or enter an existing conversation.
  • Tap the emoji icon (smiley face) in the text field to bring up the emoji keyboard.
  • Select the emoji you want to use as the foundation of your creation. We recommend starting with a larger emoji.
  • Tap and hold your chosen emoji and without lifting your finger, drag it over the text field. Once released, it will appear larger as if it became a sticker.
  • Repeat the process, selecting additional emojis to layer on top of the original one. Experiment with resizing and repositioning them for the desired effect.
  • Tap the send button to share your emoji masterpiece!

Get creative and convey emotions in a unique way.

Example: Heading to the beach? Layer a 🏖️ with a 🕶️ and a 🍹 for a summery vibe.

Layered Emojis - iMessage
fig. 1 - Layered Emojis - iMessage

Things to Consider

  • Not every app supports this feature: Layered emoji stacks might not appear the same in non-Apple messaging apps.
  • Overly complex layering can make messages hard to decipher – let your imagination run wild, but keep it legible!

Now that you've mastered the basics, push your emoji creativity even further!

Rotate emojis, resize them, or try layering them with stickers for extra fun.

Your unique creations will make your texts truly pop!

Enjoy!
