Google Now Shows Twitter in Desktop Search Results

Google
Searching on Google now brings even more relevant, real-time, search results.

How?

Google now shows relevant Twitter "tweets" in desktop search results.

This new feature is an expansion of Google already displaying Twitter search results in Google mobile search results.

The new desktop feature works for all queries performed in English.

For example, a search for "Donald Trump" returns a recent tweet from the verified account of Donald Trump, @realDonaldTrump.

Google Search Donald Trump with Twitter Results

This move benefits both Google and Twitter.  For Google, it means that users get real-time search results from the micro-blogging service.  For Twitter, it brings its service to millions of new users.

Enjoy!

Shake to Undo on iPhone

iOS 8
Oops.  Did you just accidentally delete or archive an email on your iPhone?

You can undo that.

Just shake, shake, shake.

iPhone Shake Undo Archive

Many apps let you shake to UNDO the last action.

You can also shake your iPhone when you type to UNDO or REDO typing in most apps.

iPhone Shake Undo Typing

But like most good things, it can have a downside.  Some users report that their iPhones constantly try to undo actions and display the pop-up alert.  This is caused by excess shaking of the iPhone.

There's no on/off switch in iOS 8 or earlier.  But iOS 9 will have an option to toggle this feature on or off.

Enjoy!

Force Siri to Search Google

Siri
Did you not get the right answer from Siri?

Normally, Apple's personal assistant Siri will search Bing, WolframAlpha, and Wikipedia for answers to your queries.

But you can force Siri to search Google instead.

To do it, start your Siri search with "Google" or "Search Google".

For Example, "Search Google White House"

Siri Google Search White House

This trick will also work for Yahoo.  Just say "Search Yahoo" before your search terms.

Enjoy!

Google Hangouts Gets a New Website

Google's often neglected Hangouts service has a new home.

Where has it been hiding?

Hangouts, the video, audio and text messaging service, has always been a part of Google+.

But today you also can find it at its new home: hangouts.google.com

Google Hangouts One Cool Tip

This is a good move for Google.  It allows Hangouts to come out of the shadows of Google+ to be a more visible tool for net users.

The Apple iOS and Google Android apps have also been revamped recently.

These changes look a lot like the recent changes that Facebook has made with its Messenger service.

Competition is good.  So hang on, and hangout, messaging is growing up.

Tell Outlook Where to Search

Can't find something in Outlook?

You may not be looking in the right place.

Outlook is the default email software used in most companies and usually connects to a company's Exchange server to provide access to email, calendar, contacts and To-Do lists.

Users can also connect to other mailservers, mailboxes and accounts.

But after a while, it can become terribly difficult to find an item within all of these connected sources.

There are several ways to tell Outlook where to search for an email.

By default, Outlook will search the current mailbox.

But you can change that.

Go to File -> Options -> Search to display the search options.

Microsoft Outlook Search Options

You can now change the default search location to the Current folder, remain as the Current folder but also search the mailbox when search from the Inbox, the current mailbox or All Mailboxes.

Select an option and then click OK to change the default search option.

You can also change the search on a search-by-search basis.  Select the dropdown option to the right of the search box.

Microsoft Outlook Search

Finally, you can change the search location, access the advanced search screen and display the Search Options screen from the Search Tools link on the File ribbon menu bar.

Happy Searching!
