How to Use the New Google Calendar Reminders to Help Remember to Get Things Done

The Google Calendar is a great tool to keep yourself organized with scheduled events.

But sometimes you need to have a list for longer term objectives.

A new feature, Reminders, will help solve this issue.

Available now for Android and iPhone mobile apps and soon for the web, Reminders can be set using the app or via voice with Google Now.

You can download the iPhone mobile app HERE and the Google Android mobile app HERE.

To use the Reminders, open the Google Calendar app, click the large red circle with the +, and then set your new reminder.

You can also set a reminder using Google Now, "Ok, Google, set reminder to write awesome Cool Tips".

Google Ending Calendar SMS Notifications

Starting June 27, 2015, Google Calendar will no longer send SMS text notifications.  

This service, started before the advent of smartphones, provides text messages for calendar alerts.

On smartphones like iPhone and Android, the built-in alert function serves the same purpose.

Sync with Google Calendar

You can now sync your Microsoft Outlook calendar the Google calendar.

This new service lets you keep in sync with your desktop calendar and online calendar. You can control the flow the information and set the sync schedule as well:

To begin using Google Calendar Sync, do the following:

1. Download the application from Google: http://dl.google.com/googlecalendarsync/GoogleCalendarSync_Installer.exe
2. Once a dialog box appears, click "Save File." The download should open automatically. If it doesn't, manually open the download from your browser's download window.
3. Click "OK" to confirm that you're aware this is an executable file.
4. Read through the Google Calendar Sync Terms of Service, and click "I Agree."
5. Continue to follow through the Installation Options and click "Install" to finish the set-up process.
