Ever opened a new tab and wished you could ask for help right away, without typing a search or navigating menus?
Here's a Cool Tip: Use the New Microsoft Edge Copilot Mode.
Microsoft is rolling out a "Copilot Mode" toggle in Edge’s new‑tab experience, replacing the usual clutter, news feeds, widgets with a clean prompt: "How can I help today?"
This invites you to Search and Chat, launching your query into Copilot’s AI for instant, contextual responses with no extra typing, no tabs, just answers.
What You'll Gain
- Instant access to AI right from your new tab
- Faster task flow: search, summarize, and ask in one step
- Cleaner workspace without distractions
Step-by-Step Instructions
Here's how to do it.
On Desktop (Windows/macOS)
- Toggle the Copilot Mode button in Menu > Settings > Copilot Mode.
- Click your avatar and select Copilot Mode.
- If not yet available to you, try this:
- In Edge, type edge://flags in the address bar.
- Find 'Edge Copilot Mode' and 'Allow Copilot Search', toggle both on.
- Restart the browser.
- Click your user avatar, select Copilot Mode.
- Open a new tab.
- Use the prompt to Search and Chat.
On iOS / Android
Copilot Mode is currently available only on Desktop.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Streamlined workflow: No need to open Bing or switch tools—AI is built into your new tab.
- Minimalist layout: Browsers open with purpose, not clutter.
- Smart context: Copilot can reference recent activity for better responses.
Cons:
- Flag-driven: It’s experimental, so stability may vary.
- Privacy trade-offs: Enabling context-sharing allows Copilot to leverage your browsing history.
- Limited sourcing: By default, Copilot may not show sources unless prompted.
Who Can Use It?
- Edge desktop users on Windows & macOS
- Early adopters via Edge flags
- Requires Edge version with Copilot integration (typically latest stable/dev builds)
- Not available yet for mobile or enterprise-blocked installs
