Ambient Music is a new addition to the Control Center in iOS 18.4, providing users with immediate access to curated playlists without the need for an Apple Music subscription. 

This feature encompasses four distinct categories: Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing, each offering a unique auditory experience to suit various activities and moods.​

Notably, Ambient Music operates independently of the Apple Music app, ensuring that users can enjoy these soundscapes without navigating through additional interfaces. 

Playback controls are seamlessly integrated, allowing for easy management directly from the Control Center or, on newer iPhones, via the Dynamic Island.​

Step-by-Step Guide to Accessing Ambient Music

Here's how to do it.

For iOS Devices:
  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
  2. Tap the "+" button in the top-left corner or long-press on a blank space.
  3. Tap "Add a Control" at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Scroll down to the "Ambient Music" section and choose from Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing.
  5. Tap any blank space to exit.​

Customizing Playlists:
  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner.
  2. Tap the "+" icon in the top-left corner.
  3. Tap one of the Ambient Music buttons added to your Control Center.
  4. Tap the playlist name in blue next to "Playlist," then select from the dropdown or choose from your Music library.
  5. Tap any blank space, then tap again to exit edit mode.​

Ambient Music is available to all users running iOS 18.4, including those on iPads with iPadOS 18.4. 

No Apple Music subscription is required, making it accessible to a broad user base.​
